Horton’s Orthotics & Prosthetics
Since 1981, Horton’s Orthotics & Prosthetics has made providing a lifetime of quality service and support to patients our first priority, helping them to grow and develop every step of the way.
Although Horton’s originally started as an orthotics-only facility, we eventually added prosthetics to become a full service orthotic and prosthetic facility under the umbrella of Horton’s Orthotics & Prosthetics. We now have over 48 employees with 7 full time facilities in Little Rock, North Little Rock, Bryant, Fort Smith, Conway, Searcy and Jonesboro.
1981
Certified Orthotist Gary Horton opened Horton’s Orthotic Lab, Inc. on August 1, 1981, to establish an orthotic facility dedicated to quality orthotics and quality service in Little Rock. Gary started the business with only 4 employees, working out of 1 office in Little Rock on South Look Street.
1985
After 4 years of developing a growing business, Gary moved Horton’s to our current Little Rock location on 12th street. The property initially had an old house that Gary wished to have torn down, but the architect on the project convinced him to restore the house and add to it instead. He took their advice and won several awards from the Historic Preservation Alliance of Arkansas for the building. Gary has since added on to the building again, giving us over 12,000 square feet.
1994-1995
From 1994-1995, our Little Rock location was under construction while we added a third building.
1995
In 1995, Gary Horton began working with NASA to develop a new stance control orthosis, which would become the stance control orthotic knee joint (SCOKJ) released in 2001.
2000
Horton’s hosted the first annual Fishin’ At The Harbor at the Mountain Harbor Resort on Lake Ouachita.
2001
In 2001, Gary Horton opened Horton Technology to sell products that were developed through Horton’s Orthotic Lab, Inc. by Gary and a team of specialists. This includes the Stance Control Orthotic Knee Joint (SCOKJ), a stance control orthosis developed by Gary Horton and his team.
2003
After experiencing years of personal aggravations when working with unfriendly hip abduction bars, Gary Horton obtained a second patent for another device called the Horton Click in 2003. This system connects slot shoes to a shoe rotation bar so the wearer cannot easier kick the shoes off the bar while walking. This is another product distributed by Horton Technology that is now used in the industry worldwide.
2009
In 2009, Gary Horton was awarded the first Tamarack Prize for Outstanding Contributions to Orthotic Science and Practice by the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists. This prize was created by the Orthotic and Prosthetic Education and Research Foundation (OPERF) to recognize an individual who has made a significant contribution to the practice and understanding of orthotics science within the last five years through clinical care, scientific research, and peer-reviewed publications.
